I am convinced that canned peaches taste like 20th Century American poverty. I'm not yet sure which food embodies modern American poverty, maybe it's a banana and mayonnaise sandwich.

Canned blueberries are a "top shelf" item, and I have not found them to be in stock since March. They make excellent blueberry pancakes and are acceptable in salads. Here is a picture of what the can looks like.

I don't have any association between canned peaches and poverty. We had a lot in our house when I was growing up, and I know that we weren't overflowing with cash when I was young, but I don't think we were ever poor. Were they the only canned fruit available in poor neighborhoods or something?

I seem to remember hearing that they were almost always available in food shelves. It's also one of the foods I remember being advised against when I was a young parent. Kids who don't get access to fresh fruit tend to think it tastes 'weird' if they're only used to canned.

All of that 'heavy syrup' fruit tastes like a picture of fruit with sugar added to me.

Yeah, I don't understand why fruit is packed in something that could be described as "heavy syrup". Oh, wait, I bet I do. It's because the syrup is cheaper than the fruit, right?
