In my last post, I talked about Mary Turzillo, moderator from hell. Ms. Turzillo objected to using "mean" words to describe deceptive practices. Specifically, she objected to the name of the site Quackwatch.com

It's important to note that Mary Turzillo was not actually opposed to meanness in a practical sense. She was perfectly willing to be mean to the other panelists, to include preventing them from speaking. Her goal was apparently to create a playing field where people who supported evidence based belief were required to provide evidence in a way that was deemed pleasant and congenial by their opposition, and people who didn't feel like doing hard thinking could spout off whatever bullshit appealed to them at the time. I don't think that's very nice.

I hereby wholeheartedly endorse any site which would call deception in medicine "Quackery." If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, QUACK, QUACK, QUACK.

If there's ever any question, I want it to be known that people should be MEAN to anyone who would do any of these things. Hurting the feelings of people who would cause this kind of harm is an ethical, decent thing to do. So is locking them up and taking away their credibility.
