Yesterday was a beer day.

We got a Belgian Trappist Ale brewed and into a primary fermenter. That's the second of the Belgian Ales, this one should be much less explodey.

The Cream Stout (a Guinness type beer) is in the secondary fermenter and Pumpkin Ale is bottled, to be drinkable around the middle of November. Some Pumpkin Ale will be going to Windycon.

Next year, we'll probably expand to fruit wine and cider. A basic, extra poor quality construction fruit press is about $200, which is awfully expensive for a hobby that centers around drinking. I was looking for plans to build your own fruit press on the intertoobs of all places, and I found this.

There's a Youtube video right here if you're reading via feed.

OHDEARSWEETJEEBUSYES. I'm only upset because I didn't think of it myself.

Aaron has brought it to my attention that the guy in the video is wearing a utilikilt. Therefore, the garbage disposal apple crusher must be a BRILLIANT idea.

While we're waiting for the beer to brew, here's a picture.

His name is "American National Standards Institute Industrial Grey #61 Cat" or "Dusty" for short. He is shown in this picture with an ANSI#61 electrical panel, and I'll admit that he looks significantly darker than the panel in the photo.

I assure you, it's only because the panel is a flat surface that reflects more light. Any discrepancies in color are because your color card is dated. Please contact a reputable representative for a new card, as the kittycat is not defective.

the juggler's family has a cider press that lo these many years ago someone ordered the plans for out of a whole earth catalog. we made a bunch of cider this fall, and it was fun. i'm now looking at plans or kits or whatever (since giftmas is coming up, after all) to see if it's feasible to get something of the sort. the garbage disposal ones take some of the fun out of it, but really, there's only so much fun to be had running the pressing parts by hand, and having three eight year olds willing to run around in a small circle yelling "i am delicious BACON!!!" and chasing each other while doing the pressing is fun but not always available.

(no, seriously, that's what they were yelling. weird kids.)

Cute story!

The weird kids are so much more fun than the normal kids. :)
