(no subject)
Jul. 6th, 2010 11:56 pmTonight we watched Doctor Who and the Silurians. The linked BBC site includes disparaging remarks about Jon Pertwee in a tight t-shirt, obviously a misprint or a typo. Next up, we'll watch Black Orchid, which is from the library. It needs to go back before the end of the week.
For now, it's back to the CVG report. My Friday has almost no photographs that are associated with things I actually did. For people who only want to see the photos of the hall costumes, I put those first. If anyone would like a copy of the original size digital photo, feel free to let me know and I'll send you one.
First, as promised, the hall costumes

This next one isn't an official costume, but it's important to know that the whole thing is full of Mountain Dew. That's just how hardcore Mountain Dew fans are.

On to something a little closer to a convention report. I started out in the morning at the "Parenting Geeks: Starting Them Young" panel because I'd told K. that I would try to come and keep an eye on R. for at least part of the panel.
While I was watching her, I took some pictures. Here's a nice one. See how I got the subjects of the photo, which are obviously the cups and the mind-blowingly-awesome hotel carpet, to be perfectly in focus?

After the parenting panel, I went to my room to get my books for Paul Cornell's signing. I behaved like an almost normal person, thanked him and went on my merry way. Here's a picture from his interview later in the afternoon.

Burger King has a surprisingly un-repulsive vegetarian sandwich. Here are some nice flowers on the way to the aforementioned sandwich.

I did a badger shift and a toast shift. For next year I have a goal to figure out how to make homemade Marmite/Vegemite for the House of Toast. We have plenty of leftover beer yeast in the house, but it seems that the official Marmite recipe is double-top-secret. I am relatively clever, and the intertoobs seems to have a few recipes that claim to be close. Does anyone that I know like Marmite enough to sample some and tell me if it's wrong?
No matter right now. On to the parties!
This Peep is starting to molt

This one isn't a hall costume, but it is a tattoo that I saw in a room party. I don't remember why I took the picture, maybe it's just because the colors are very nice.

The cake is a lie!

Is this for sandwiches?

I did not drink much from the parties. Instead, I carried around a bag with some homebrew in it so that I could show something off. The most popular beer was definitely the India Pale Ale, made with genuine wood chips. It was delicious.
Late Friday night, I once again got sucked into playing ZAR. The available cards were getting a bit worn, so I broke down and bought a new deck from C. Seems he's got a whole side thing as a traveling ZAR salesman. Somewhere, Joe-Who-Is-From-Chicago-But-Is-Not-To-Be-Known-As-Chicago-Joe might have posted a good picture of blurry hands trying to get cards down. I saw it on JWIFCBINTBKACJ's camera and it was a very nice shot.
I should probably try to remember that ZAR is one of those fast paced games that seems to last half an hour, but really lasts three hours.
I went to bed at about 5:30, about the time that the Cow Party Singalong was finishing up.
