George Stephanopoulos is My Pet Goat
Jan. 9th, 2010 12:55 pmAttention journalists - The headline is not the appropriate place to publish a known lie. People are stupid and lazy (me included) and many people only skim the headlines. Pretend that the headline is sort of like the "thesis statement" that was important in high school essays.
F'rinstance, the headline "WTC towers attacked under Bush presidency, Shoe bomber attacked under Bush Presidency less than one year later" is more effective than the headline "Rudy Giuliani: 'We Had No Domestic Attacks Under Bush; We've Had One Under Obama'"
The example article could contain something about that really awesome story My Pet Goat, who is named George Stephanopoulos, but that would just be a bonus.
Come to think of it, "George Stephanopoulos is My Pet Goat" would be a pretty good headline, too.
