Two unrelated things

spiderplanet1. I've realized that there's absolutely no point in me ever filling out an online feedback survey that offer a chance at a random drawing. I would never, ever, EVER open any email that said "Your name was chosen in our random drawing," and I would never click on a link in an email that said "Click here to claim your prize!" My mistrust of the internet thrwarts me from ever realizing any gain for my effort, so why bother?
2. As of today, thanks to the internets andmiss_s_b's excellent post about The Sarah Jane Adventures, I have become aware of a rule known as The Bechdel Test.
Off the top of my head, I can think of a few movies that pass, but not many. Ummm... Aliens... a bunch of really crappy tearjerkers from the 80s... Goodbye Lenin, umm...
For posterity, and since the rule has evolved a bit since the 1985 comic,
1. The movie has to have at least two women in it, both of whom have names
2. The two women must talk to each other
3. Their conversation must include discussion of something besides a man
For my own definition, a 'woman' is an adult. This site lists many movies in relation to The Bechdel Test, many that "pass" include characters that are children in order to qualify. Sarah Jane still qualifies, BTW, there's a neighbor across the street who is an adult woman, and she often talks to Sarah, just like they're people or something.
I think that if I ever see a movie in which two women talk with each other about about a major plot point in which their profession/character definitions are somewhat germane to the plot while a male character is not in the room, my head might explode, i.e., two scientists talk about a sciency thing that solves the crime.
Maybe on Torchwood(?)
Further proof that RTD probably was influenced by the Whoopi Goldberg TV interview where she talked about seeing Star Trek when she was little and running to tell her mother that she saw "a Black lady on television and she ain't no maid!"
